I only use Silhouette Studio to test DXF files before I post them for sale, and they always work fine whenever I converty and SVG to a DXF in Inkscape. Another box pops up and I do NOT change any of the defaults that Inkscape has here. The box to save your file to your computer will pop up (I use Windows, it may differ with other systems) - where it says "Save as Type" click on the arrow to get the drop down menu and choose Desktop Cutting Plotter (.dxf) and click SAVE. Once the file is open, make sure it is selected (bounding box with little arrows pointing inward) and then go to FILE > SAVE AS. Next, open Inkscape, and go to FILE > IMPORT. I just want to cut something I've tweaked to get my feet wet but am not having much luck with it.While all of our sets come with both SVG and DXF files, you may have some SVG files that you need to convert to a DXF file, especially if you use the free Silhouette Studio software that only accepts DXF files. Usually the best is to use the second one. You can do this either per drag-and-drop or via the menu File > Open. It’s best to read through this article before, as some steps might not be required. I used to hand-cut my vinyl and am excited about my Cameo. dxf file with Inkscape in ten steps to an Origin-cuttable. When I opened it, it had 2 little "bumps" from each end. So I created a simple circle with (no trace bitmap) and the saved it as a DXF(Use ROBO-master type of Spline output). So, I was not sure why all my DXF files were distorted, even with what looked like a perfect image that I Trace Bitmapped. I read somewhere that Inkscape can cut to my Cameo but could not get it to work. You will need to take measurements for the size of the box and the thickness of the material for. I saw a Youtube video of a way to go around this, which is to save your images (BMP, SVG, PNG etc.) to DXF and let Silhouette Studio cut it. Here's a bit more info that I should've put down on my first post. Ragnar, wow, I'm totally amazed at your "hurried scratch" work, lol! I did notice that Trace Bitmap was not perfect and I had to tweak the image a little bit more after doing so. The image might need some "node-tweaking" to be "perfect" - was done in a "hurry"!īrynn and Ragnar, thank you for the replies.

( Right click image to download & open in Inkscape. When finished you will (hopefully ) end up with something like this Select the outer circle path and the "spokes" path.ĭraw the remaining two paths and fill with black as well. Make sure the path is a closed path - if it's open at any point the next steps will fail. As we use Laser cut 5.3 software with our lasers, we need to export our design as a DXF file. When you have worked your way all around the inner circle and spokes will be one path ( Minus the two S shaped curves which has to be done separately.) Inkscape can export to a number of different formats. Join the drawn curves with the circle segments as you go along. (Some places you have to insert a node or two to get the path to match.) (Near center of circle.)ĭrag the curves to match the background image. When done - select all nodes on the inner circle and break path at selected nodes.ĭelete all line segments that covers a "spoke".ĭraw straight lines from remaining segments to end of spokes. Insert nodes at the corner of each "swirl spokes". Here are the steps I took to create the SVG below: if you can't use the "basic" hand-tools you will never be a good wood-worker - but you might be an excellent "tool-collector"! )
